Old Poem

because my mom seems to like this so much...

An Imitation of the Original

A man fuses the world of the traditional
with the realm of the fabricated.
The oriental simmers with glamour and fame.
Trade routes and boulevards intersect;
although associated with poetry and literature,
its art is tainted by parody--
imitating and faking the exotic original.
The agricultural and the artificial are rolled together,
as its modest nature slowly becomes glamorized.
There is an invisible aura of stardom;
hype and celebrity is emitted.
A slice of garden green
contrasts with a stick of counterfeit orange.
It is situated somewhat uncomfortably
inside a blanket of a white sticky shell.
It emulates its predecessors;
the California Roll forces its way –
becoming part of a modern oriental sphere.
